You messed up.

Board update that landed wrong.
A new hire that didn't work out.
Strategic call made months earlier that's now clearly wrong.
Then you spend the next 3 days replaying the mistake and beating yourself up.
Sound familiar?
I see this with leaders I work with.
The error has already happened. You only get to choose what comes next.
This isn't from a leadership book.
It's just… true.
You can't undo the email.
You can't take back the comments made in a meeting.
You can only choose what you do next.
It's a call to apologise.
It's a quiet fix behind the scenes.
It's just showing up the next day and not dragging yesterday with you.
Accept what's done is done.
Learn from it.
Focus on what you can do next to be better.
It's not easy.
But it is a choice.
You're not a bad leader because you made a mistake.
You're a bad leader if you let that mistake freeze you.
So if you're beating yourself up today:
Take a breath.
Ask: What's one useful thing I can do right now?
Then do that.
Everything else is just noise.
What do you do to quieten your inner critic when you've made a mistake?
