Find your flamboyance

Yes the orange shoe is mine.

No one else dared wear such a wild colour.

I was often the odd one out.

It used to bother me.

But I’ve learned to embrace it.

Because as it turns out,

"odd" is just another word for "original."

And when you stop apologising for your colour,

you stop looking for a flock—and start finding your flamboyance.

There's a reason a group of flamingos is called a flamboyance.

Not a flock, not a herd, but something far more vivid.

The word itself means "the quality of being different, confident, and exciting in a way that attracts attention."

Sound familiar?

It should.

As a senior executive, you've likely spent years cultivating exactly that quality.

The confidence.

The differentiation.

The ability to stand out.

BUT

Standing out is exhausting when you're standing alone.

HBR studies show that up to 50% of CEOs report feeling lonely.

The higher you climb,

the fewer people there are who truly get it.

Your direct reports can't be your confidants.

Your board has fiduciary duties.

Your peer network?

Polite.

Safe conversations, but rarely much else.

Of my coaching clients,  the leaders who thrive aren't the ones with the thickest skin.

They're the ones brave enough to build a flamboyance — a tribe who sees the human behind the title.

A curated tribe of peers who:

Challenge your thinking without a hidden agenda.

And who remind you of your values when the noise gets deafening.

You don’t stumble into a great tribe.

You have to be intentional in how you build it.

That starts with being unapologetically yourself.

The same way a flamingo doesn't apologize for its colour.

Great tribes aren't built on conformity.

They are built on safety.

The kind of safety that lets you show up as your full, magnificent, nuanced self.

Allowing you to stand together.

Each one magnificent.

Each one part of something larger.

Your leadership was never meant to be solo.

Find your flamboyance.

The colour suits you.
