“What is transformational coaching and why should I care?”

I was asked this recently.
I’ve heard it described as a way of coaching to facilitate a client’s self-actualisation.
Although true, it sounds a bit woo.
Put simply, it’s like installing a new operating system
as opposed to an upgrade of the same system.
It’s helping you develop a new way of thinking and being
which in turn impacts on emotions, choices and behaviours
This means you show up differently.
In all areas of your life.
Ideally in line with who you want to be
and living the values that you hold dear.
This means that the change is longer lasting as it’s a change in you.
Too theoretical?
An example:
Some of my coaching clients want to developing gravitas and executive presence.
One way is to upgrade your current system by copying other senior executives such as dressing as they dress, slowing your speech and make more eye contact.
OR
You could upgrade your operating system by showing up consistently
living your values through your actions, speech and thoughts
which allows you to be comfortable in your own skin as you’re clear what’s important to you.
Which in turns helps you to be more confident
and speak with conviction
especially in situations where others might not agree with you.
Which is likely to help you come across as having gravitas and
more importantly longer lasting
especially when you’re under pressure?
This is why you should care.
