I am a control freak.

Organisation, planning and schedules allow me to get through all that I need to do.
Last minute changes do my head in.
I struggle with others who are always late, rushing and forever changing plans.
It seems so stressful and chaotic.
Why would you want to live that way?
I don’t get it. 🤦♂️
So.
I decided to do something about it.
I worked with my coach. (Yes. Coaches have coaches. Or should IMO).
And this is what I learned.
1. Accept
a. Things will always happen that you didn’t predict.
b. Everyone is different. Doesn’t make them bad.
c. Go with the flow.
d. After all, no one died.
2. Trust
a. Trust that others will show up having done what they committed to.
b. If not, deal with it then.
c. Judging before the “crime’s” committed breaks down trust.
3. Keep practicing
a. Behaviour change is really hard.
b. You will forget and go back to being controlling.
c. It’s not the end of the world. You’re learning.
d. But keep at it.
I’m improving but still have lapses.
I’ve noticed my relationship with those who like to “wing it” is better.
I still think it’s chaotic.
But now I try to see it as “beautiful chaos”.
What do you do to be less controlling?
