Do you think of We or Me as you lead?

Many of my clients were promoted to leadership positions because they got results by being self-directed and self-driven.

The ME mindset might have helped them get the promotion but it’s often also what gets in the way of them being effective as leaders.

Why?

Leadership is not about you doing the doing but about achieving through others’ doing – the WE.

This means that your success as a leader is measured by your ability to grow others. It’s no longer about you winning. It’s your team and other stakeholders that must win for you to be deemed a successful leader.

Shifting to a WE mindset also builds trust.

Trust is critical to the success of a new leader with a new team and other stakeholders.

They are more likely to trust you if they feel that you’ve got their back and not just your own.

How do you shift from ME to WE?

Reflect on “how is my ego serving me?” and see what emerges.
