As a leader, your emotional state and perceivable emotional responses has a large impact on your teams and other stakeholders.
A positive emotional response can inspire and motivate.
Yet
A negative emotional response could have the opposite impact.
Swinging from one emotional state to another is even worse.
It results in others feeling insecure around you as your moods seem unpredictable.
So how do you regulate your emotions
so that you can come across to others as stable and calm? 👇
1. Set an intention to remain calm.
2. Notice your emotion – whatever it maybe and name it.
a. You are experiencing an emotion. You are not the emotion.
b. This will help you gain some distance and perspective.
3. Look for trends.
a. Are there certain situations, people where you find it hard to self-regulate?
4. Prepare for these situations.
a. Try breathing exercises, reciting a mantra or visualizing how you wish to be in these challenging situations.
5. Remove yourself
a. If you feel that your emotions are getting the better of you, remove yourself from the situation.
b. It gives you time to calm yourself and gain perspective
What else do you do to regulate your emotions?
