There are 3 mindset shifts of successful leaders

Transitioning to a leadership role?
DO less, BE more
I work with executives in transition taking up new roles with broader geographical and/or business remit. A common challenge is that they use ways of doing that proved successful in the past but are now no longer helpful.
What should you do instead?
3 mindset shifts that may help
1. Specialist to Generalist
Often, subject matter expertise is what got them their promotions.
However, leadership is about being a generalist and therefore being responsible for areas where you have minimal experience.
It means getting used to not knowing and relying on others with the knowledge.
2. Singular to Helicopter view
This requires you to have a holistic view of the whole company as a system.
Understanding how your decisions impact on the whole.
3. Warrior to Diplomat
This means, it is less about fighting for your team and more about finding solutions that benefit all.
This requires influencing others when you have no formal authority.
How do you change mindset?
Decide on how you want to BE or more simply…
How do you want to show up.
Why?
“The way you show up determines the way people feel. How people feel determines everything about the outcome of the relationship.” Genos International
I helped an executive get a promotion and settle into his new leadership role. His challenge was transitioning his way of being from a team head i.e. fighting for only for his team to a diplomat wanting everyone to win.
We worked on who he wanted to be as a leader. What values he wanted to embody daily.
He honed in on the value of Fairness.
Remembering Fairness allowed him to show up not just wanting his team to win but wanting all divisions to benefit – looking for common ground.
It also allowed him to slowly shift from a “Me” mentality to a “We” mentality.
Showing up in this way meant that his stakeholders started trusting him. Knowing that his intention was to find win/win solutions.
Projects that initially resistance gained global support Board approval.
As a leader, how would less doing and more Being change your relationships?
